Australian Government Initial Report under the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Forces

Published in October 2008.

The Australian Government is pleased to present to the Committee on the Rights of the Child Australia’s Initial Report under the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict.

This report combined with the Fourth Report under the Convention on the Rights of the Child is the first time that Australia has submitted any report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child as a supplement to its Common Core Document. The Government trusts that this approach will assist the Committee in assessing Australia’s implementation of all the major human rights treaties, as well as the Convention on the Rights of the Child and both its Optional Protocols.

This report should therefore be read in conjunction with the supplementary report to the Core Document, which constitutes Australia’s Fourth Report under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
